Find opportunities — and win them.

CargoSeer designed its AI Shipment Inspection Platform to combine automated image analysis, computer vision and machine learning techniques with trade and cargo data.

BigBear.ai has acquired a suite of technologies from a fellow artificial intelligence company with an eye toward expanding further into cargo inspection and trade risk management functions.

CargoSeer opened for business in 2023 to develop AI tools for government usage in detecting fraud, smuggling and other illicit activities. In late 2025, CargoSeer unveiled a partnership with Leidos to integrate trade analysis algorithms into a single system that works to combine multiple inspection data sources.

With this transaction announced Thursday, BigBear is bringing in CargoSeer’s AI Shipment Inspection Platform that is designed to support non-intrusive inspections. Financial terms of the move were not disclosed.

CargoSeer touts the AI Shipment Inspection Platform as being able to combine automated image analysis, computer vision and machine learning techniques with trade and cargo data. The idea is to help customs operators more quickly identify high-risk shipments and other anomalies in cargo flows at ports of entry.

“The acquisition of certain technologies of CargoSeer aligns directly with BigBear.ai’s strategy to deliver trusted technologies to customs agencies ensuring more efficient and secure movement of transported goods,” BigBear’s chief executive Kevin McAleenan said in a release. “Combining advanced computer vision with trade and cargo intelligence, we are expanding our ability to support customs agencies as they modernize enforcement operations, strengthen border security, and facilitate global trade.”

For BigBear, this purchase of the CargoSeer tech suite follows its $250 million acquisition of the generative AI platform provider Ask Sage, which closed in December. That transaction represented BigBear's foray into agentic AI.
