Big Impact Deals

Some M&A deals catch you by surprise. Some make small companies big players. Some move markets. Some do all three.

Washington Technology asked a panel of experts to select the Big Impact deals of 2004 in the government IT services arena. Although the size of the transaction is important, we asked our experts to consider a variety of factors as they ranked the top 10 deals.

  • Was the deal unusual? The privately held Argon Engineering Associates Inc., for example, used a reverse merger to become a publicly traded company.
  • Did it surprise the market? Dimensions International Inc. and ITS Services Inc. each took a big bite by acquiring companies of roughly their own size.
  • Does it create a significant new competitor? Many of our top 10 transactions did just that.

Here is Washington Technology’s inaugural list of Big Impact deals.

1 BAE Systems North America Inc. buys DigitalNet Holdings Inc.
2 CGI Group Inc. and CACI International Inc. buy American Management Systems Inc.
3 Veritas Capital Fund II LP buys McNeil Technologies Inc.
4 SI International Inc. buys Matcom International Corp.
5 ITS Services Inc. buys Science & Engineering Associates Inc.
6 Argon Engineering Associates Inc. buys SenSyTech Inc.
7 QinetiQ Group Plc. buys Foster-Miller Inc. and Westar Aerospace & Defense Group Inc.
8 PEC Solutions Inc. buys AC Technologies Inc.
9 Harris Corp. buys Orkand Corp.
10 Dimensions International Inc. buys Sentel Corp.
