Amit Yoran has resigned his position as the Homeland Security Department’s cybersecurity chief after just a year on the job.

Yoran, who was appointed director of the department’s National Cyber Security Division in September 2003, leaves amid questions over whether his office has enough authority to ensure the security of the nation’s networks.

“No one I know from that point in the bureaucracy could have pulled that off,” said Alan Paller of the SANS Institute of Bethesda, Md.
