AT&T Corp.’s government solutions unit has won a $4 million contract to deploy a Web-based system as part of a program to help Marines leaving the service adjust to civilian life, the company announced Sept. 16.

Under the five-year deal, AT&T will set up a Web-based automated information system for a program called Marine for Life. The system will provide tools to help the retiring Marines look for employment, housing and schools for their children. It will also provide electronic calendar books and other online productivity aids. To help in the work, AT&T has tapped Professional Solutions LLC, Alexandria Va.; Progressive Data Systems Inc., Dumfries, Va.; and Project Performance Corp. of McLean, Va.

“We make a significant investment in our Marines, and we need to keep them part of the Marine family,” said Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Jones. “For those who choose to leave active duty, the Marine for Life program can assist in their transition to civilian life while emphasizing the value of an honorable discharge.”

Bedminster, N.J.-based AT&T estimates that 27,000 people leave the Marine Corps each year.
