SRA International Inc.’s chairman and chief executive officer Ernst Volgenau is giving up the CEO title to company president Renato DiPentima, the company announced today.

Volgenau founded Fairfax, Va.-based SRA 26 years ago. DiPentima joined SRA in 1995 after a career at the Social Security Administration. DiPentima, who is keeping the president title, will become CEO Jan. 1.

“Relinquishing the CEO position will enable me to devote more attention to my family, charitable endeavors, and writing,” Volgenau said. “SRA has a strong board that regularly challenges the management team to excel, and I shall continue to be actively involved as chairman.”

SRA made several other management changes that also will take effect then.

David Kriegman will become chief operating officer. Anthony Valletta will take Kriegman’s position as director of the defense sector. Valletta’s spot as director of the command and control, communications and intelligence sector will be Patrick Burke, who has been the deputy director of that sector.

Also, David Langstaff, former CEO of Veridian Corp. will become chairman of a long range planning committee of SRA’s board. Langstaff has been on the board since January. The committee will focus on growth and diversification of SRA, the company said.

SRA is ranked No. 31 on Washington Technology’s Top 100. The company had about $615.8 million in revenue for the year ended June 30.
