Savi wins expanded RFID contract

Savi Technology Inc. has had its radio-frequency identification contract with the Army expaned by more than $200 million.

The Army gave a boost to the contract because it needs to keep providing RFID tags and related supplies and services for shipments of materiel to the Middle East to support Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Army said.

The contract was increased to $424.5 million from $207.9 million, and will run through Jan. 31, 2008.

Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., Savi Technology is a privately owned company that provides RFID solutions for managing supply chain assets, shipments and consignments for defense and commercial clients. It has provided RFID Solutions to the Defense Department for more than a decade.
