With an eye on improving its modeling, simulation and engineering capabilities, Alion Science and Technology Corp. has acquired Micro Analysis and Design Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase of MA&D of Boulder, Colo., is expected to boost Alion’s capabilities in human systems integration as well as in ship design, modeling and simulation, said Alion Chairman and CEO Bahman Atefi in a statement announcing the deal.

Micro Analysis’ human systems integration solutions fit into Alion’s portfolio of military manpower solutions, as well as its extensive modeling capabilities, said Ron Laughery, president of MA&D.

The company specializes in human factor engineering, which is the practice of studying and designing IT applications to work in harmony with people. It has been recognized for its work with the Army and Navy and other customers, Atefi said.

The purchase of MA&D is one of several acquisitions Alion of McLean, Va., has made in 2006. Alion bought both Washington Consulting Inc. of McLean and BMH Associates in February.

Alion, which has about 2,700 employees and fiscal 2005 revenue of $369 million, ranks No. 57 on Washington Technology’s 2006 Top 100 list of federal IT prime contractors.
