Harris Corp. won a one-year, $10 million contract to do the preliminary design for the secure wireless transmission system architecture of the Army’s Warfighter Information Network-Tactical program.

Harris is a member of the General Dynamics Corp.’s WIN-T program team, which also includes Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems. Total value of the program through 2021 is estimated at $10 billion. Value of the transmission system contract for Harris could reach $1 billion through 2021 if all production options are exercised.

The WIN-T program is the next generation of military tactical communications systems. It features an integrated framework of standards and protocols that will improve military battlefield communications.

Later this year Harris expects to begin a two-year production program that will finalize a common wireless transmission system architecture for the WIN-T program and the Future Combat System. The two programs are among Army’s most critical net-centric modernization efforts and both will benefit from a common wireless transmission architecture. WIN-T is scheduled to be fielded later this decade.

Harris Corp. of Melbourne, Fla., has about 13,000 employees and annual revenue of more than $3 billion. The company ranks No. 22 on Washington Technology’s 2006 Top 100 list of federal IT prime contractors.
