A Radio Frequency Identification Caucus is launching today in the U.S. Senate, with four senators signed up as members.

Co-chaired by Sens. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), the goal of the bipartisan caucus is to educate decisionmakers in Congress and the public to successfully utilize RFID, according to a news release.

Republican Sens. Bob Bennett of Utah and George Allen of Virginia also have signed up as members of the caucus, said Nicholas Conger, a spokesman.

At today’s launch, representatives from the Defense Department, the University of Texas, ABI Research, IBM Corp., Verisign Inc. and other companies will present an educational forum on RFID.
