Two companies with expertise in applying geographic information system technology believe there is new territory for them to conquer together in the state and local market.

CH2M HILL’s Enterprise Spatial Solutions business has teamed up with Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. to develop several spatial information management solutions to help state and local governments improve their operations.

The GeoCity initiative includes several customized applications that combine spatial technology with a municipality’s information systems and data. The result is technology that helps government agencies with needs ranging from decision-making and asset management to security and emergency response.

ESS GeoCity MapIt ArcGIS gives users customized driving directions through updated construction zones by providing a route using open roads and considering the construction schedule. The tool has been integrated into standard public Web sites as one component of a larger traveler information campaign.

The GeoCity Emergency Vehicle Tracking fuses GPS location-based technology with a spatial view of a city or county jurisdiction, letting response personnel effectively track and locate fire, police or emergency response vehicles to determine location and estimated time of arrival at the scene.
