(UPDATED) Michigan CIO Terri Takai will serve as president of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers for 2006-07, succeeding Wisconsin CIO Matt Miszewski, she told Washington Technology.

NASCIO announced its new executive team during the organization’s three-day annual meeting in Miami. Terry Savage, Nevada’s CIO, was named the group’s vice president, while Iowa CIO John Gillispie was named treasurer.

Takai told Washington Technology she is concerned about CIO turnover in the coming months with 36 gubernatorial races on the block this November. CIOs usually change with new administrations.

“We could have turnover like we did four years ago, when we had over half the CIOs change,” Takai said. “That’s a huge education process for us to help those CIOs … understand the value of a national association and help them with their governors.”

Takai said she plans to turn to the private sector for help in getting the new CIOs up to speed, “particularly the ones coming in from the private sector.” She said new state administrations will need to recognize the importance and value of IT and of looking at it strategically.

NASCIO’s incoming president appoints eight directors. The four new directors are:
