Nortel Government Solutions Inc. will continue to provide information technology support for the U.S. Postal Service’s automated mail-handling system under a contract extension worth $6 million.

The PostalOne automated system helps integrate and optimize business mail handling, a nearly $40 billion annual business for USPS. It also provides financial management data and online access to tracking and status information for USPS and its business customers.

Nortel is providing software design, secure data management and integration of the PostalOne system with existing USPS systems and third-party applications. This includes the development and enhancement of mail processing support to handle an estimated two million new addresses each year.

Nortel has provided systems and application development, engineering and network administration services for USPS since 1993.

Nortel Government Solutions, of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 90 on Washington Technology’s 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
