The Army plans to issue a draft request for proposals this week for active radio frequency identification devices to meet its need to track, locate and monitor Defense Department commodities and assets.

Responses to the draft RFP are due June 11, according to a notice posted on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site.

The Army estimates that it will make three indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract awards as a result of the RFID-III procurement. The contracts are expected to encompass hardware, software and services. Services will include training, warranty, maintenance and technical engineering, the Army said.

The Army plans to use the active RFD solutions obtained through the contract to support DOD, the Coast Guard, NATO, coalition partners and other federal agencies in locations in and outside of the continental United States.
