Making network changes to increase security seems like an all-around win. However, rapid network changes can result in misalignment with policies, which can produce unintended security vulnerabilities and reduce resource availability. Agencies can identify and rectify these issues before they become major problems by implementing Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) programs to deliver network assurance. This approach enables agencies to:

  • Gain visibility into connectivity, network segments, and devices
  • Quickly identify risks, potential problem spots, and network gaps
  • Prioritize what needs to be prevented or corrected immediately versus what the agency can manage over time
  • Ensure integrity and availability of systems
  • Gain an independent project evaluation, detached from project details or assumptions

To discover why network assurance is an indispensable part of any comprehensive IV&V program, join Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News for a complimentary Webinar, sponsored by Lumeta in conjunction with Intelligent Decisions.

Government regulations and regulators are increasing the requirements to strengthen security internally and to protect citizens externally. According to ESG there are currently 10,000 regulations impacting data management in the U.S. alone. Worldwide that soars to approximately 20,000 regulations that governments, government suppliers, and the extended supply chain must meet. Security policy mandates to protect government data include the U.S. Federal Government’s IPv6/IPsec Mandate. Regulations to protect the public include Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA & Identity Theft Protection Act (pending), and California 1387.

Citizen, student and consumer privacy is a growing “hot” topic due to the rapidly expanding use of the Internet. At a global level we are seeing the introduction of many new federal, state, and industry-specific regulations that seek to control the way data is managed. The impact of non-compliance with these regulations can be lost revenues to an agency, risk and exposure to lawsuits or, at a more personal level, fines and jail sentences imposed on the fiduciaries, commissioners, directors, CIOs, and CFOs, who ultimately carry responsibility for the actions of their employees, for Governance and for non-compliance.

  • Security is everyone’s concern.
  • Your technical solutions are only as strong as the policies they support and the procedures built around them.
  • To successfully implement security strategies you need to get management to drive them, IT and HR to implement them and staff to understand and respect them.
  • Security is a value add and a business enabler.
  • Imaging and printing security must be a part of the overall IT security strategy!

On average, over 90% of existing IT budgets are spent on sustaining and evolving the computing infrastructure and delivering mission critical and utility services. Therefore, helping to reduce data center infrastructure costs represents one of the most substantial savings opportunities for most IT organizations. At the same time, business environments are more dynamic than ever driving the need for more agile data centers, with the ability to scale and adapt to changing business and user demands such as new business opportunities and mergers and acquisitions.

When making a purchasing decision, initial procurement price is certainly important – selecting the lowest cost asset in order to save the company money, but studies have shown that if you consider the cost of the asset from initial purchase through deployment, maintenance, support, management, and ultimately to retirement, less than 20% of the costs are for the initial hardware and software investment. TCO analysis helps decision makers make more intelligent investments by analyzing the total cost of the asset over its useful life. This ensures that the decision is not made simply on the lowest initial purchase price, but considers change costs, ongoing support and maintenance, and service levels which include availability of applications and data.

  • Learn about Future Thinking Data Centers
  • Manage and Balance your Data Center costs
  • Increase the Decision Support of your Data Center Spend
  • Learn how Virtualization can affect TCO
  • Learn about your Data Center Assessment Options

Agencies face numerous mandated deadlines over the coming months, in the move to Networx, adopting IPv6 and in addressing the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) initiative, among others. Networx Transition, IPv6 adoption and planning for TIC have something in common; they are major transition initiatives which require complete visibility into network connectivity and behavior, so that the demands of change can be balanced with security, availability and policy compliance imperatives.

The question then becomes: How do you plan for and accomplished all that is being asked of your agency within a reasonable timeframe without running over budget or overlooking any of the crucial network connections that must be accounted for? It can be nearly impossible to manually to gain an idea of which assets need to be monitored and managed. Meeting these requirements requires that you find a single, comprehensive solution that enables you to gain a complete understanding of your network environment in order to close knowledge and security gaps.

In this webcast, you will learn about key transition success factors and best practices for scoping requirements and anticipating risk. You will discover how to:

  • Assess your organizations’ current infrastructures and capabilities
  • Plan, well in advance of the OMB deadlines, a roadmap that accurately reflects the current picture of your infrastructure, focusing on gaps between policy and defenses
  • Accurately estimate needed infrastructure changes, including device upgrades and reduction of Internet connections
  • Limit unwanted connectivity or other security risks during the changeover and after the transition
  • And more

Today, sharing, distributing and storing electronic information is easier than ever. Healthcare providers are using technology like email, EMR, and Web communications as the primary systems for collaboration between internal and external users. The shift to electronic forms of communication increases the risk of losing confidential data such as patient medical histories, diagnostic results, and network physician data. Further, the explosive growth of our structured and unstructured information stores complicates the needs of Protected Health Information (PHI) security in an age where total data volumes under management are staggering.

In order to prevent data loss, healthcare providers need to employ an end-to-end system for protection against the accidental or malicious loss of sensitive and confidential information. In addition, organizations should maintain a comprehensive archive for conducting data loss analysis or audits to ensure that the appropriate controls are in place.

Join Symantec to learn how its Data Loss Prevention solution can help you:

Getting more from your existing bandwidth is not a trivial task, and more agencies are looking to WAN optimization technologies as a way to get a five- to 20-fold improvement in network performance without leasing more bandwidth. The WAN optimization space, which started as a tactical bandage to fix network congestion problems, is becoming a strategic enterprise service.

The knee-jerk approach to speeding up application performance over the network is to add bandwidth or purchase new servers and distribute them across the enterprise to host applications and data that would be closer to users. There are a number of problems with this approach. Distributing applications on servers goes against the current trend in government. However, even in the best of situations, centralizing applications can have a performance impact on large networks.

Watch this webinar to learn more about the situation the Air National Guard (ANG) was facing with its network, which connects more than 200 locations in 54 states and territories. Instead of increasing bandwidth, the proper solution turned out to be the Blue Coat ProxySG. Enforcement and acceleration go hand in hand because of the network overhead in policy enforcement.
