Government issues draft specs for massive wireless net

The government has released a detailed description of its plan for the multibillion-dollar Integrated Wireless Network and is asking vendors for comments. The network is an effort of the Homeland Security, Justice and Treasury departments to build a wireless voice and data communications network for law enforcement users.

Senate gives DHS appropriations bill the nod

The Senate yesterday approved a $32 billion fiscal 2005 appropriations bill for the Homeland Security Department. The House OK'd the bill Saturday. The bill now will be sent to the White House for President Bush's signature.

Preparations aided response to massive outage

State and local officials across the Northeast said today that the emergency response methods they upgraded after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks helped them with yesterday's massive power outage. The preparations included computer links among state, local and federal emergency response centers.
