Lumen hires new public sector operations leader

The telecommunications company adds to its leadership team responsible for evolving how the company works with government.

Lumen Technologies has hired a new vice president of program management for its public sector business in Dan Klein, a nearly three-decade tech industry veteran formerly of Microsoft.

Klein will be based out of a Lumen office in Herndon, Virginia, in his new role and report to Public Sector Senior Vice President Zain Ahmed.

“Dan is a results-driven software and services leader with extensive business development, strategic alliances, operations and project management experience. We look forward to leveraging his experience and thought leadership to continue to evolve our way of working in the public sector,” Ahmed said in an announcement emailed to WT by a Lumen spokeswoman.

Most recently at Microsoft, Klein worked as operations leader for the software giant's federal business. He oversaw digital transformation efforts related to internal functions that include contract management, quote-to-consumption processes, compliance, service delivery, incentives and partner management.

Klein is also a former Air Force officer who managed global crisis operations centers in Greece, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
