Assurance Technology will develop systems to transmit energy across the radio frequency spectrum to objects in space under the FROST program.
Assurance Technology has captured a $244 million Navy contract for research on space to ground communications.
The Focused Radio Frequency Optimized Signal Transference contract will be used for engineering, analytical and technical services needed to development systems that can transmit energy across the radio frequency spectrum to objects in space
The energy is processed by the object, and the results are collected for analysis by other antennas at various locations around the globe.
The information and technology developed will eventually support the Navy’s mission and improve space operations, according to solicitation documents.
Part of the Assurance’s contract includes evaluating current equipment and recommending upgrades and retirements.
FROST was a small business set-aside contract and Assurance was the only bidder. The Defense Department announced the award Friday.
Assurance is headquartered in Carlisle, Massachusetts. The company focuses on advanced RF, optical, processing and power systems that support NASA, NOAA, DOD, and commercial customers.
The Navy is its largest customer, according to USASpending data.
