DISA sets release date for follow-on cloud solicitation

The Defense Information Systems Agency is pushing to expand its $9 billion cloud vehicle beyond the big four hyperscalers.
The Defense Information Systems Agency's newest acquisition schedule pegs an expected final solicitation release date of Aug. 24 for the next iteration of the military's main cloud computing contract.
The Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability contract is the Defense Department’s vehicle for buying cloud services from the main hyperscalers – Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft Azure and Oracle.
DISA's expected release date was part of the agency's August acquisition decisions posting on its website.
The new version will be called JWCC Unified Cloud Marketplace and expands what DOD can buy through the vehicle.
Tier 1 will be for the hyperscalers. Tier 2 covers “everything-as-a-service” including software, platform, and non-hyperscale infrastructure.
Tier 3 is reserved for what DISA is calling “Commercial innovators and small businesses.” This tier will be populated by emerging companies and small businesses.
DISA has not posted an estimated value for JWCC Unified Cloud Marketplace. The current JWCC vehicle had a $9 billion ceiling.
Deltek data indicates AWS has received $526.5 million in task order obligations, followed by Microsoft at $221 million. Oracle is next at $76.9 million and Google stands at $35.9 million.
