BAE Systems has won a $9.2 million contract modification from the Navy for engineering services to support the MK 41 vertical launching system.

The MK 41 vertical launching system is a rapid-fire missile launcher. It's concept was derived from work that was done on the Aegis Combat System.

The U.S. Combat Systems unit of the company's Land & Armaments group will provide technical and engineering services that will support research, development, test, evaluation, upgrades, operation, maintenance and product improvements.

The contract, under the foreign military sales program, combines support for the U.S. Navy and the governments of South Korea, the Netherlands, and Canada.

Work will be performed in Minneapolis, Minn., Brea, Calif., and Aberdeen, S.D., and is expected to be completed by September 2013.

Funding in the full amount of the contract was obligated at the time of the award, $89,900 of which will expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
