For this portion of its Cloud One Next program, the Air Force seeks help in analyzing what applications should move to a cloud environment and how to do so.
Booz Allen Hamilton has won a potential five-year, $743.1 million task order for enterprise application modernization and migration work in support of the Air Force’s main mechanism for implementing cloud computing services.
Under the Cloud One Next initiative, the Air Force is looking to further accelerate its migration away from on-premise data centers and create what the branch calls a “cloud landing zone” for access to applications.
Air Force officials received five proposals for the portion of Cloud One Next awarded to Booz Allen, according to the Pentagon’s Wednesday awards digest.
First initiated in 2017, Cloud One has acted as a one-stop shop for Air Force and other mission system operators across the Defense Department to acquire cloud services from multiple infrastructure providers and other vendors.
In 2019, Science Applications International Corp. captured the current Cloud One order that tasked the company to lead the migration of more applications to the cloud. The Air Force pegged the number of app migrations completed at that time as 21.
SAIC has been obligated approximately $684 million in volume against the current order that is slated to expire on Sept. 7, according to GovTribe data.
The Air Force broke up Cloud One Next into three separate procurements, including the piece Booz Allen was chosen for.
Booz Allen will be responsible for analyzing applications to determine how they could be updated and migrated to a cloud environment. A May 2023 sources sought notice on the requirement indicates the firm will act as a managed service provider performing the migration and support those applications once they go into the cloud.
A second task order of Cloud One Next apparently did not last too long after its award. Accenture’s U.S. federal subsidiary won the potential $1.6 billion reseller portion back in the fall, only to be cancelled in this spring as part of Department of Government Efficiency reviews at DOD.
Order number three zeroes in on architecture and common shared services to include help desk support, customer onboarding, remote access and file transfer functions. The final solicitation remains under development.
Each of the Cloud One Next task orders are going through the government-wide Alliant 2 IT solutions vehicle.
