NASA continues work on SEWP VI during consolidation uncertainty

The space agency is still processing proposals for the next-generation IT contract while the Trump administration weighs moving the program to the General Services Administration.
While conversations continue about the NASA SEWP program possibly getting absorbed into the General Services Administration, NASA is working on the next iteration of the contract as if it is business as usual.
The agency posted a notice Tuesday that it is processing and reviewing proposals for SEWP VI, the newest version of the massive IT product and services vehicle.
NASA launched SEWP in 1993 and since then, billions of dollars in transactions have flown through the vehicle each year. Many market observers regard it as the most successful government-wide acquisition contract fielded by any agency.
For SEWP VI, NASA added more standalone services in response to agency demands.
The Trump administration has emphasized the streamlining of procurement, including consolidating contracts at the General Services Administration. The SEWP program has been high on the list of vehicles to be pulled into GSA, but a final decision on whether SEWP moves to GSA has not been made.
With the posting, NASA says it is continuing to move forward as it always has.
“The large quantity of proposals submitted has required additional time to make selection and award,” the agency said. “While a specific date for SEWP VI to commence has not been finalized, NASA will coordinate the timing such that SEWP VI will begin the day after the contract end date of SEWP V.”
If GSA absorbs SEWP, it will likely occur only after NASA makes awards.
