Army picks Dragonfly payload system for spectrum sensing

Research Innovations will provide and maintain the ruggedized sensors under a nearly $100 million, five-year contract.
The Army has awarded a nearly $100 million contract to Research Innovations Inc. for ruggedized sensors that autonomously process electromagnetic spectrum.
The company provide and sustain Dragonfly payload systems. The Army received 95 bids for the five-year contract, according to the Defense Department’s contract digest.
According to its website, Research Innovations’ Dragon system weights about 3.5 pounds and can be mounted to multiple platforms including drones. Capabilities include automatic signal classification, direction finding and geolocation, and swarm networking, which means users can create a network of sensors.
Work locations under the contract will be determined by each task order. The Army Contracting Command at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland is the contracting activity.
Research Innovations is a small business and was founded in 2009. It has grown into a 350-person company with headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
