Find opportunities — and win them.

John Epperly's career prior to DVS includes leadership roles at companies such as Booz Allen Hamilton and DMI.

DirectViz Solutions has promoted a new chief executive from within its own ranks in John Epperly, a three-decade public sector veteran and DVS’ chief operating officer for the past three years.

Epperly’s elevation to CEO took effect Jan. 1, DVS said Thursday. He succeeds Mike McHugh, who previously led DVS for approximately five-and-a-half years.

Founded by Chairman Vinnie Tran in 2012, DVS provides technology and professional services to agencies in areas such as cybersecurity and application development. DVS also works on logistics and training programs.

Vienna, Virginia-headquartered DVS has recorded approximately $58.8 million in unclassified prime contract obligations over the trailing 12 months. The Army represents the majority of that spend at 65.7% with the National Science Foundation next at 27.7%, according to USASpending.gov data. The Food Safety and Inspection Service makes up the remaining 6.6%.

Epperly’s private sector career includes leadership roles at Booz Allen Hamilton, MCI, Elbit Systems of America, DMI, Coalfire and Audley Consulting Group.

Before entering industry, Epperly served in the Army and Army National Guard as an armor and infantry officer for 36 years.
