John Monahan joins the commercial satellite operator a handful of months after its initial public offering.

HawkEye 360 has hired a new executive leader for its U.S. government business in John Monahan, a 35-year defense sector veteran and former Lockheed Martin executive.

HawkEye 360’s U.S. federal portfolio centers around signals intelligence offerings to include space-based radio frequency data, signal processing and analytics.

Monahan will be responsible for advancing HawkEye 360’s existing programs with that customer set and leading efforts to expand its presence across the market, the company said Thursday.

At Lockheed, Monahan previously worked as vice president of space protection programs with responsibility for satellite and other programs in national security. He is also a former senior executive at Kratos and RT Logic.

"Growing our U.S. government business is a central part of HawkEye 360's corporate growth strategy, and it requires dedicated leadership focused on the needs of government and intelligence community customers," Todd Probert, HawkEye 360 chief operating officer, said in a release. "John brings the experience and customer understanding to strengthen program execution, deepen those relationships, and expand our role in supporting their missions."

Monahan joins HawkEye 360 five months after the company completed its $416 million initial public offering, one of several in a run of other listings by defense and space technology companies looking to tap into heightened investor interest.

U.S. government work represented 61% of HawkEye 360’s total revenue of $117.6 million for 2025, according to the company’s S-1 registration statement. HawkEye’s U.S. federal customer base includes the National Reconnaissance Office, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Space Force.

Before entering industry, Monahan served in the Air Force for 20 years and held leadership assignments spanning different aspects of the space domain.
