Voyager has purchased a maker of electric satellite propulsion systems that enable maneuverability and velocity changes, key attributes for the future missile defense architecture.
Four months after its initial public offering, Voyager Technologies has completed an acquisition with an eye toward preparing for potential opportunities stemming from the Golden Dome missile defense initiative.
ExoTerra Resource builds electric propulsion systems for satellites and has a presence in the Space Development Agency’s main constellation, for which the company supplied its Halo thruster to York Space Systems for 21 satellites.
With ExoTerra in the fold, Voyager is looking to grow its knowledge in spacecraft maneuvering and velocity change capabilities that will be necessary for Golden Dome to work. Terms of the transaction announced Monday were not disclosed.
“We’re amplifying our collective mission capability with ExoTerra, accelerating delivery across defense and commercial markets,” Voyager’s chief executive Dylan Taylor said in a release. “As freedom of maneuver becomes central to space control and deterrence, it’s imperative that reliable propulsion systems are built, tested and qualified right here in the United States.”
NASA was Voyager’s largest customer in 2024, but the majority of the company’s revenue is in defense work either as a prime or merchant supplier to other companies such as Lockheed Martin and Airbus.
Voyager raised $383 million in capital through its June IPO, which was closely watched by industry observers and investors as a potential tone-setter for more space IPOs. Firefly Aerospace subsequently followed with its offering in August that fetched $868 million in capital.
